Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a manual therapy which has been practised for over 100 years.

It is a system of diagnosis and treatment that focuses on the structural and mechanical problems of the body and is most concerned with the body's framework and how it is functioning.

Before your Osteopath starts to treat you, they will take a medical case history and take time to listen to you to make sure you understand all the factors contributing to your problem.

They will also look at your posture and how you move your body. Then assess what hurts, where and when, as well as feeling your muscles, joints and other structures.

They may take your blood pressure or reflexes if they need to, or do other examinations if they feel it may be helpful in reaching a diagnosis.

After an initial diagnosis is made treatment will commence using a wide range of gentle techniques creating a bespoke treatment depending on your age, fitness and the diagnosis.

Treatment is different for every patient but may include techniques such as different types of soft tissue massage and joint articulation to release tension, stretch muscles, help relieve pain and mobilise your joints.

After the treatment you will be advised on stretches or exercises that you can do to improve your posture and movement in your workplace and everyday life, and address any other queries you have regarding your treatment and management.
